Popup Advertising – An Underutilized Advertising Medium
When people think of advertising they usually think of PPC, more specifically Google Adwords. While Adwords is great, it is not the only profitable form of advertising – if you limit yourself to Adwords you are limiting your profit. Once I have a profitable campaign up and running I like to expand into other PPC companies and other advertising mediums, and popups is one of those mediums.
If you have not used popups before you might think it is untargeted advertising – it isn’t. Zango Ad Services for example lets advertisers bid on keywords, just like Adwords does, and when a consumer does a search on a search engine for your target keyword your website will pop up in a new window.

What’s great about popup advertising is that it’s dirt cheap. While Adwords will charge me $1.00 CPC on a campaign, Zango will charge me $0.05 per popup for the same campaign. Zango tends to cost from $0.02 to $0.20 per popup, depending if your competitors are bidding on the same keywords as you.
Popup advertising is a bit hit-and-miss for me, for some campaigns it can bring 1000% ROI but for others it can bring negative ROI, it seems to vary a lot between industries. Even so, if you are profiting from PPC you should also try popup advertising, it is easy money.
